One of the most enjoyable times in my life was while I was in flight school. It was likely the most perfect balance of bullshit and an absolute thrill ride.
Nothing about it was easy, but there were these moments when you felt so alive, it made all the other bullshit seem miniscule. It was also a very short time in my life, less than a year, but it has more memorable moments than any handful of years combined since then.
I will not trade the births of my children for a chance to pilot a UH-IH. Their births and all their subsequent accomplishments are great moments in my life. But there was so much negative shadowing the few positives in the years after I left the army.
But during those nine months of flight school, the positives outweighed the negatives 10 to 1. Because it has been on my mind a lot lately, I am going to create a new category on this blog called Flight School. Following this post, I will write a series of my favorite moments and post them to this blog.
Maybe I can even find some of the old pictures.
Once I complete the initial run of stories, then I will revisit Flight School as old memories float the surface.
It was a great time for me, and I hope you enjoy the series.
Thanks for reading.
